Frequently Asked Questions

» Do I still have to pay if I stop working on my app?

No, you only have to pay for your app in months where you perform a build action against it, or push a Reload to your users.

If you do neither then the app can still be distributed in the App Store, but does not count towards the apps you are paying for.

You need to downgrade your plan or disable the project manually to avoid being billed

» Will my apps stop working if your servers go down?

No. There is no run-time dependencies on except to push Reloads.

We have had great up-time so far and, as a cloud build service, it's important for us to keep that record to keep you productive during your development. So we work hard at it.

» How do you count the number of Reloads?

A reload is counted as pushing a single update to a unique end-user.

So reloading a single update to 5,000 unique users in a month would be the same count as pushing 5,000 updates to a single unique user.

» I changed plan but haven't seen a charge on my card yet

You are billed on the day of the month you originally signed up to a paid plan. If you upgrade then your next charge will be at the new rate plus the pro-rated charge for the part-month during which you upgraded.

» If I code to's API won't I be locked in?

Similar to other critical infrastructure services, such as AWS or Heroku, Forge requires that you code to our API in order to derive the benefits of the framework.

You can migrate off our API at any time and cease monthly payments - this requires some development effort; similar to the effort you apply today to develop your applications against the underlying platform APIs.

» What happens if gets acquired?

Our goal is to stay independent and grow to become a huge company. That said, we promise that in the event of a change of control, we'll take steps beforehand to protect your interests.

We're developers ourselves and value our reputations. Similarly, it is imperative to our investors like Y Combinator, Paul Graham, 500 Startups, and SV Angel to be well regarded by developers.
